Koreeda Hirokazu to release his new movie "Manbiki Kazoku" in June 2018

Lily Franky, Ando Sakura, Matsuoka Mayu, Kiki Kirin, Jyou Kairi, Ikematsu Sousuke, Koura Kengo, Ikewaki Chizuru, Emoto Akira, Ogata Naoto, Moriguchi Yoko, Yamada Yuuki and Katayama Moemi will be starring in the new Koreeda Hirokazu movie "Manbiki Kazoku" (The Shoplifting Family) which will be his 14th full-length movie to date. The movie had been conceptualised by Koreeda over the past 10 years and its title had been changed many times before he finally decided to go back to its original title. He explained that this movie's title does not only refer to those who shoplift but also their victims and hoped that the audience would be able to understand this theme after watching this movie.

The story is set in an old residential area which has been forgotten in the wave of development. Shibata Osamu (Lily) who is doing odd jobs and his son Shouta (Jyou) engage in shoplifting together to make ends meet. One day, while on their way home, they see a young girl Yuri (Sasaki Miyu) who is shivering from the cold and brings her home. Upon seeing Yuri, Osamu's wife Nobuyo (Ando) flares up at her husband initially but takes in Yuri as she senses that the child had a difficult past. The whole family depends on the grandmother Hatsue's (Kiki) pension and Nobuyo's younger sister Aki (Matsuoka) who works part-time at a senior high school girls' club. Despite their difficult financial situation, the family live happily. Ikematsu plays a regular customer at Aki's shop nicknamed Mr. No.4 while Koura and Ikewaki play police detectives Maezono Takumi and Miyabe Kei who are  keeping tabs on the activities of the Shibata family. Emoto plays the owner of a snacks shop who treats the children of the Shibata family well.
