Mukai Osamu and Ueto Aya will be playing a married couple in the new NHK drama SP "Taiyo wo aishita hito ~ 1964 ano hi no Paralympic ~" (The person who loved the sun ~ The Paralympic of that day in 1964 ~) which is based on the story of the doctor who succeeded in bringing the Paralympics to Tokyo in 1964. The drama SP will be shown this summer.
Mukai plays the lead character Nakamura Yutaka who is a plastic surgeon and comes into contact with medical care for the handicapped by incorporating sports while he is an intern at the UK in 1960. At that time, he hears a sentence which says "don't count the things you lost and live to the fullest with what you have left" that changes his life forever. Upon coming back to Japan, Nakamura tries to promote sports for the handicapped during an era where the word rehabilitation doesn't even exist. When he meets a young boy, he gets the idea to promote wheelchair basketball and manages to bring the 2nd Paralympics to Tokyo despite the challenges and objections from society and the family members of the handicapped.
