"Fune wo Amu" selected to represent Japan in the 86th Academy Awards' Best Foreign Language Film category

"Fune wo Amu" starring Matsuda Ryuhei and Miyazaki Aoi has been selected to represent Japan in the 86th Academy Awards' Best Foreign Language Film category as announced by the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan, Inc. on 5 September. The film had been selected by 7 judges out of 15 movies which had filed applications for the selection process.

"Fune wo Amu" is based on the novel by Miura Shion which talks about a man transferred to the dictionary editorial department of a publisher and how he works on a new edition of a dictionary with his unique co-workers and his love story.

First-day-screening of movie "Fune wo Amu"

The first-day-screening of movie "Fune wo Amu" was held on 13 April at Marunouchi Picadilly which was attended by cast members Matsuda Ryuhei, Miyazaki Aoi, Odagiri Jo, Kuroki Haru, Kobayashi Kaoru and Isayama Hiroko. The movie is based on the same titled novel by Miura Shion which won the 2012 Honya Taisho. When asked about their favourite words, Matsuda commented that he likes the word "tanoshimi" (meaning enjoyment) since he hopes to do everything happily. As for Miyazaki, she revealed that she likes the word "omotenashi" (hospitality) which reminds people that they should think of others when  doing anything and yet they should not go overboard with the politeness because it would create pressure for the other party so this is a difficult thing to achieve.

Matsuda Ryuhei & Miyazaki Aoi at Tokyo cruiser event for "Fune wo Amu"

Matsuda Ryuhei and Miyazaki Aoi attended the cruiser event held at Sumidagawa on 9 April in a bid to pray for the success of their new movie "Fune wo Amu". The two of them boarded the Tokyo Sumidagawa cruiser from Asakusa and saw sights such as the Tokyo Skytree during the journey. In the movie, Matsuda plays a newbie editor in a publishing company who is assigned to work on the production of a dictionary with his colleagues. When asked to define "love", Matsuda wrote that love is when your heart is taken away by someone and you feel as if your heart is being hung up in the air all the time. As for Miyazaki, she wrote that love is a necessary stage for everyone to go through as part of growing up.

Charity screening of "Fune wo Amu"

The charity screening of movie "Fune wo Amu" was held at Space FS Shiodome on 20 March which was attended by lead actors Matsuda Ryuhei and Matsuzaki Aoi. They were joined by special guests Prince Akishinomiya and Princess Kiko during the screening who praised the actors for their performance. The screening was also attended by 23 senior high school students from Fukushima Prefecture who was encouraged by the Prince to be positive about their future and live well like Majime (Matsuda) in the movie.
