The 16th Nikkansports Grand Prix (Winter 2013)

This is a rather small-scale survey since there are less than 1,000 votes so the results tend to be heavily skewed and quite different from the general opinion or what you see in The Television Awards. Please don't be upset if your favourites or those who you think deserves an award doesn't appear here. ^__^

Numbers in brackets indicate number of votes.

"Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou" scores 8.1% for finale

"Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou" earned itself the dubious honour of the No.1 Gekku drama with the lowest single episode rating as its last episode shown on 25 March scored a low of 8.1%. The previous title holder was spring 2009 drama "Konkatsu!" starring Nakai Masahiro which got 8.8% for its last episode. "Biblia" started with a rating of 14.3% for its first episode and was in the 10% to 12% range from the second episode onwards. However, due to the last episode's low rating, the average rating of the drama became 11.3% by the end of the season.

Wishing & Coming-of-Age ceremony for "Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou"

The wishing ceremony for FujiTV's new Winter 2013 drama "Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou" and Coming-of-Age ceremony for its lead actress Gouriki Ayame was held on 8 January at Tokyo's Oomiyagu which was attended by Gouriki, EXILE's AKIRA and Takahashi Katsumi. Gouriki started to cry as she commented that it has always been her dream to star in a Gekku drama so being able to take on her first leading role in a primetime slot, somemore in the Gekku slot was something she had never imagined. As such, she thinks that this drama will become a memorable one for her since it also marks her entry into adulthood this year.

Filming for the drama began early December and Gouriki plays Shioriko, the owner of an antique bookstore in Kamakura, who solves the mysteries brought by her customers. The challenges for her are that she not only has to arm herself with knowledge about books but also say lines spanning as long as 14 pages. As such, Gouriki commented that in the first episode, it felt like she was doing all the talking.

AKIRA plays a part-time worker at Shioriko's bookstore while Takahashi plays a mysterious man who's knowledgeable about antique books. Co-stars also include Tanaka Kei, Triendle Reina, Yasuda Narumi and Matsuzaka Keiko. The theme song will be sung by EXILE's sister group E-Girls who will do a cover ofthe song "THE NEVER ENDING STORY" and it is due to be released as a single on 20 February.

Preview of Winter 2013 offerings: Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou (FujiTV)

I will be doing a series of preview posts for the upcoming Winter 2013 dramas and share my thoughts on them. Of course, everyone's views would be different so please don't be offended if I happen to dislike what you are eagerly awaiting to see. Feel free to share your comments on these dramas as well!

Title: Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou
Official site: here
Main cast members: Gouriki Ayame, AKIRA, Takahashi Katsumi
Details on storyline etc: here
Timeslot: Mondays, 9pm
Comments: There's been talk going around that Gouriki is not a good fit for the role (she's more of the bubbly and youthful type while the character is a gentle and quiet girl) or that she got the role because of her agency's bargaining power in the industry. That's exactly the same type of controversy surrounding her colleague Takei Emi who kept getting lead roles despite her drama doing really badly in terms of ratings. I've only watched Gouriki in Mirai Nikki which I would say her acting is passable although there is still a lot of room for improvement. I'm not confident that she can take up a leading role in such a primetime slot so early in her career especially where the ratings pressure is definitely going to be much higher compared to other timeslots. For now, I may watch the first episode to see if it's worth staying on but the cast doesn't have the pulling power to make me stay for the long term as far as I can see now.

Gouriki Ayame to be the lead in Winter 2013's Gekku "Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou"

Gouriki Ayame will take on the leading role in "Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou" (Biblia Antique Bookstore's Case notebook) the FujiTV Gekku drama for Winter 2013 as announced on 20 November. This is the first time she is playing the lead in a primetime drama and a Gekku. Since her drama debut in January 2011 as a senior high school student in the Gekku drama then "Taisetsu na koto wa subete kimi ga oshiete kureta", this will be the 7th consecutive season she has appeared in dramas.

The drama is based on a mystery novel by Mikami En which has sold 3.1 million copies even though there are only 3 volumes published to date since last year. Gouriki will play the lead Shinokawa Shioriko, the owner of a antique bookstore in a quiet part of Kamakura and helps to solve the mysteries brought by her customers through her extensive knowledge gained from reading old books. Shioriko is an introvert who is shy with strangers but unafraid to argue with others in order to defend her love for books.
