Completion press conference of new WOWOW drama "Hippocrates no Chikai"

The completion press conference of new WOWOW drama "Hippocrates no Chikai" was held on 27 September which was attended by cast members Kitagawa Keiko, Shibata Kyohei and Onoe Matsuya. The drama which consists of 5 episodes and will begin its run from 2 October in the Sundays 10pm timeslot, features Kitagawa as an intern Tsugano Makoto who is assigned to work under a forensic medicine professor (Shibata) who is very knowledgeable but somewhat eccentric. Onoe plays a police detective who works with them to solve cases.

The actors appeared in the doctors' robes they wore in the drama where Kitagawa revealed that this is the first time she wore this while her co-stars like Shibata and Furuya Ikko were so used to wearing the robes. As such, she felt embarrassed because she didn't feel that convincing when dressed in the same robe. As for taking on her first medical drama, Kitagawa said that there were many first experiences for her so there was a fair bit of pressure. However, she was very pleased to see the final result so the feeling of satisfaction for her hard work was even greater.

As this is the first time which the three actors have worked together, Kitagawa and Onoe both said that Shibata had tried to make the atmosphere on set more relaxed with his ad-lib lines. Especially during the autopsy scenes where she would get scolded by him, Shibata added some jokes during the process which made her unsure if she should be laughing along with the others. However, Shibata feigned ignorance to this which led Kitagawa to comment that he did that a few days every day.

Shibata revealed a funny happening on the set where the cast and staff were not very much in the mood for food such as yakiniku and innards steamboat since they had to do autopsy scenes in every episode with real organs soaked in formalin placed around them. However, Kitagawa actually prepared yakiniku and sukiyaki bentos for everyone as a gift during the filming. Although they thought initially that they might not be able to stomach that, everyone enjoyed the bentos in the end. In response, Kitagawa apologised for not being considerate enough when preparing her gift.

Kitagawa Keiko to star in new WOWOW drama "Hippocrates no Chikai"

Kitagawa Keiko will be starring in the new WOWOW drama "Hippocrates no Chikai" (The Hippocratic Oath) which will be shown from 2 October in the Sundays 10pm timeslot. This will be her first attempt at playing a doctor in a medical-themed drama and her first leading role in a WOWOW drama. The drama is based on the same-titled novel by Nakayama Shichiri and focuses on forensic medicine.

Kitagawa plays the role of Tsugano Makoto, a medical intern who is working in the internal medicine department of a hospital when her respected mentor Professor Tsukuba (Furuya Ikko) recommends that she transfer to the forensic medicine department for an internship stint. Upon her transfer, Makoto realises that the atmosphere there is very different and she is shocked by her mentoring professor Mitsuzaki Tojiro's (Shibata Kyohei) eccentric character and aloof attitude. Just then, she receives a call from a young girl asking if they can perform an autopsy on a woman who was killed in a car accident caused by the girl's father. At the same time, a police detective Kotegawa Kazuya (Onoe Matsuya) approaches Mitsuzaki with the same request even though the police had deemed that there was nothing suspicious about the woman's death but Kotegawa decides to proceed with the autopsy request at the request of the man's family. Despite having reservations about Kotegawa's way of doing things, Makoto gradually realises how skillful he is and develops a newfound admiration for him. However, the autopsy brings a dark secret to light which causes Makoto to be embroiled into an unexpected situation.

Before she became an actress, Kitagawa had dreamt of becoming a doctor during her high school days as she wanted to be of use to others. While wearing the doctor's robe for the first time during the filming, she felt that it was a new challenge for her and she wanted to show how Makoto grows as a doctor as the story progresses.

Co-stars include Hamada Mari who plays the assistant of Mitsuzaki, Sato Megumi who plays Makoto's best friend as well as Aijima Kazuyuki and Kaneda Akio. Filming was completed in early April this year.
