Production press conference of NTV Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu ~ Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou"

The production press conference of NTV Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu ~ Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou" was held at Kawasaki City on 2 April which was attended by the cast members including Ninomiya Kazunari, Fukushi Sota, Arimura Kasumi, Hongo Kanata, Yamazaki Kento, Mamiya Shotaro, Hiraoka Takuma, Suzuki Katsuhiro, Sakurada Dori, Yanagi Shuntaro and Akutsu Shintaro. The drama which will begin its run from 12 April in the Saturdays 9pm timeslot, will feature Ninomiya as a part-time teacher who becomes the coach of a baseball team. Ninomiya jokingly said that his finances are going to be in the red soon since he has to "treat" his students to meals frequently and he's worried about Arimura turning on her charm to ask him for things because he might just grant her wishes.

After the press conference, the cast had to film the scene of the baseball team celebrating its first victory with a water shower which left everyone drenched. Ninomiya commented that it had been his dream to take part in a beer shower commonly seen when professional baseball teams win their matches so he was glad to have his dream come true.

Ichikawa Ebizo joins the cast of NTV Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou"

Kabuki actor Ichikawa Ebizo will be acting in a drama for the first time in 5 years as he plays a former baseball player-turned-coach and the rival of Ninomiya Kazunari's character in the NTV Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou". The drama will begin its run from 12 April at 9pm on Saturdays.

Ichikawa plays the role of Yachida Kentaro who was the former ace of Doutou Senior High School's famous baseball team which won the Koshien. At that time, Yachida also beat Tamo Aoshi (Ninomiya) during one of the matches in the tournament. After graduation, Yachida became a professional player but had to retire due to a shoulder injury. He returns to his alma mater to become the special coach of the baseball team and reunites with his old-time rival as Tamo is the coach of the weak baseball team from Odawara Jotoku Senior High School which is trying to win the Koshien as well.

Ichikawa's signature work was the 2003 Taiga "MUSASHI" and he last appeared in the TBS 2009 drama "MR. BRAIN". He commented that it has been a long time since he appeared in a TV drama and he is happy at the thought of working with Ninomiya and hopes to make the drama interesting together with the young cast. On the other hand, Ninomiya said that although they play rivals in the drama, he thinks that everyone will get along very well on the set.

Cast announcements for NTV Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu ~ Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou"

NTV announced the rest of the cast lineup for its Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu ~ Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou" on 24 February. The drama starring Arashi's Ninomiya Kazunari as a teacher and baseball team coach, will begin its run from April in the Saturdays 9pm timeslot.

Ninomiya plays the role of Tamo Aoshi who returns to his alma mater to teach for a year and is tasked with taking care of the school's baseball team. However, the school is focused more on sending its students to prestigious universities thus the baseball team consisting of 5 members only is weak due to lack of training and limited time and resources devoted to it. It also has the dubious reputation of not having won any matches since its establishment and registering 20 errors in just one match. Despite this, the team will aim to enter the national championships under Aoshi's coaching. His students who are also part of the baseball team will be played by Fukushi Souta, Hey! Say! JUMP's Nakajima Yuto, Yamazaki Kento, Hongo Kanata, Mamiya Shotaro, Sakurada Dori, Suzuki Katsuhiro, Yanagi Shuntaro and Hiraoka Takuma. Arimura Kasumi who will also play a student, will be the team's manager while Yakushimaru Hiroko will play the owner of a cafe frequented by the baseball team who is also Arimura's mother in the drama.

Ninomiya Kazunari to star in NTV's Spring 2014 drama "Yowakutemo Katemasu ~ Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou"

Arashi's Ninomiya Kazunari will be the lead in the new NTV Spring 2014 drama "Yowakuttemo Katemasu ~ Aoshi-sensei to Heppoko Koukou Kyuuji no Yabou" (Even if we are weak, we will win ~ the aspirations of Teacher Seishi and the lousy senior high school baseball players) which begins its run from April in the Saturdays 9pm timeslot. This will be Ninomiya's first role as a teacher as he plays the character Tamo Aoshi, a biology researcher at University of Tokyo who is asked to become a temporary biology teacher by his alma mater and due to his status as an OB, Tamo has to take on the position of the school baseball team's coach. However, his alma mater being a school focused on increasing the percentage of students making it to university, gives little attention to the baseball team where students are only required to practise once a week since their attention should be focused more on their studies. As such, the team has never won a single match to date. To change the situation, Tamo decides to make use of his clever students and pit their wits together to find a way for the team to win against a strong team despite the challenging conditions facing them.

Ninomiya who had experience playing baseball since primary school and even won the MVP in the 2003 "Johnny's FAN Kanshasai" at Tokyo Dome, said that playing a teacher itself is tough for him and hopes that his performance will be well-received by the viewers. Last year, when he was watching the summer national high school championships (Koshien), he was surprised to see one of the coaches being at the same age as him. All along, he had been playing baseball but never considered the viewpoint of a coach so he will try to play his character just like a coach aiming to bring his team to Koshien.

The drama is said to be an original story based loosely on "Yowakutemo Katemasu - Kaisei Academy Yakyuubu no Theory" by non-fiction writer Takahashi Hidemine which talks about how Kaisei Academy (one of the top private boys' school in Japan) managed to transform its baseball team. As part of the preparations for his role, senior high schools nationwide can apply through NTV's website to get Ninomiya to visit their school so that he can learn more about their baseball team.
