Hoshino Gen will be appearing in the upcoming TBS Autumn 2016 drama "Nigeru wa haji daga yaku ni tatsu" which will begin its run from October in the Tuesdays 10pm timeslot. The drama which is based on the same-titled manga by Umino Tsunami, features Aragaki Yui as the jobless heroine Moriyama Mikuri who becomes a housemaid for salaryman Tsuzaki Hiromasa (Hoshino) who takes pride in the fact that he never had a girlfriend in his 35-year life and calls himself "the soushoku" (the herbivore guy). Due to a sudden incident, Mikuri suggests to Tsuzaki that they should enter a contract marriage which leads their relationship to change slowly from that of employer-employee to mutual attraction. Hoshino commented that he is eagerly anticipating to play Tsuzaki who is cowardly yet frank and hopes that viewers will be tuning in to check out how the marriage of Mikuri and Tsuzaki develops.
Hoshino will also be singing the theme song titled "Koi" written by himself which will be released as a single on 5 October. He described the love song as one which would make the listener want to dance and the lyrics are based on everyday life.
