Kusanagi Tsuyoshi to appear in new NHK documentary-drama SP "Mikaiketsu Jiken Sekihoutai Jiken"

Kusanagi Tsuyoshi will be appearing in the new NHK documentary-drama SP "Mikaiketsu Jiken File 06 Sekihoutai Jiken" (Unresolved Case File 06 The Sekihoutai Case) which will be shown in two parts at 7.30pm on 27 January and 9pm on 28 January. The programme talks about the unresolved murder of an Asahi Shimbun journalist who was allegedly murdered in May 1987 by the Japanese right-wing extremist group, Sekihoutai who barged into the newspaper's Hanshin Office and fired shots at the staff. Although a total of 500,000 people were involved in the investigation, the case reached its statute of limitations 13 years ago without a clue as to who the murderer could be.

In the first part of the programme, Kusanagi plays a reporter in Asahi Shimbun's special investigation unit who tries to unravel the truth behind this case. This will be the first time Kusanagi is appearing in the re-enactment of a case in the Mikaiketsu Jiken series although he had been a navigator before. He will not be appearing in Part 2 which delves into the newly-known facts about the case. Kusanagi commented that when the case happened, he was a junior high school student and didn't know much about it. However, through his participation in the drama, he came to know more about the case and started thinking what it meant to be able to speak your mind freely. As such, he hoped that this will set people thinking about their part in society and freedom of speech.
