Takeuchi Yuko will take on her first leading role in a NTV drama when she appears in the upcoming autumn 2013 drama "Danda Rin - Roudou Kijun Kantokukan" (Danda Rin - The Labour Standards Inspector) which begins its run from October 2013 at 10pm on Wednesdays. In preparation for her role, Takeuchi cut her long hair by more than 30cm for the first time in 12 years.
The drama which is based on the manga by Tondani Takashi and Suzuki Masakazu, depicts the tough situation faced by Danda Rin (Takeuchi) who tries to protect the working class by fighting against companies which flout labour laws.

Oh, I think that's the drama Nanako Matsushima was originally linked to! Guess she didn't accept the role after all which I think is good considering there's no need for her to star a drama each season. If she did that, it was bound for one of them to flop, putting a damp in her almost perfect resume
I haven't heard anything about Matsushima being linked to an autumn drama until you mentioned it. Going by the fact that she finished the filming of "Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji" in July which was way before the usual filming period and that she had reportedly wanted to keep the summer holidays free for her family, I doubt that she would have considered taking on an autumn drama which usually starts filming in September. Besides, like what you said, two dramas over consecutive seasons might not be the best thing for her career.
Yes, I've always thought it was extremely unlikely. However, I've seen the rumor going around among a few Japanese drama-related blog. Matsushima linked to the NTV Wednesday drama; Takuya Kimura in the TBS Sunday drama slot and, supposedly, Matsuda Shota for the Gekku. Idk, I think at some point she might have been considered instead of Takeuchi Yuko for this drama but it's pure speculation of my part.
