Shiina Kippei will play a leading role in a drama for the first time in 14 years through the TBS autumn 2013 drama "Keiji no Manazashi" (A detective's look) which will begin its run from October at 8pm on Mondays. It will also be his first leading role in a TBS drama after he played the main character in FujiTV's 1999 drama "Renai Sagishi" (Love Trickster).
"Keiji no Manazashi" is based on the same-titled novel by suspense writer Yakumaru Gaku which features Shiina switching career paths to become a newbie police detective in his 40s after quitting as a legal officer at the juvenile detention centre. To date, Shiina had played many police detective roles and his most recent role was as Kazamatsuri in "Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato De" which had a strong comical touch. This time, his role Natsume will be a gentle man who tries to solve cases with a softer approach.
Co-stars include Kaname Jun, Kitamura Yukiya and Matsushige Yutaka.
