Filming for the current Taiga drama "Taira no Kiyomori" wrapped up recently and a press conference to commemorate this was held at NHK's headquarters on 26 October which was attended by the drama's lead actor Matsuyama Kenichi. When asked about the low ratings of his drama and that it had even scored the lowest rating to date for all Taiga dramas in the Kansai region (7.5% on 21 October), Matsuyama said that ratings were never a concern for him right in the beginning. He expressed his view that although nobody had aimed to get that record, it was still something honourable for the drama to get this title. Matsuyama explained that if the drama had been put together in a slipshod manner, he would have felt ashamed if the drama did badly in terms of ratings. However, since everyone including the cast and crew had put in their best and he thinks that the drama is indeed of high quality, this is why he thinks nobody should feel bad about the lacklustre ratings.
Filming for this drama began in August last year and lasted for a long period of 14 months. When asked about his plans after the end of filming, Matsuyama said that he will start thinking about it soon. He also revealed that he had recommended himself for the role of Kiyomori which helped him to secure the role. There are still 10 episodes till the end of the drama thus Matsuyama called upon viewers to support it during the rest of its run especially since the climax will be presented in a different manner from before.
