Sakurai Sho will be hosting a 12-hour-long live music programme on NTV titled "THE MUSIC DAY Ongaku no Chikara" as announced on 24 April. The programme will feature 50 groups of artistes who will perform live at Makuhari Messe in Chiba on 6 July and is a special project with the theme of "songs which give the Japanese people strength" as part of NTV's 60th anniversary celebrations. There will be video footage of singers from the past 60 years in between the performances and is the first 12-hour-long live music programme in NTV's history. Viewers will be able to vote for their favourite songs through the programme's homepage. There are plans for this programme to be continued on an annual basis.
Sakurai has experience in hosting such major music shows thanks to his main host stints in "Best Artist:" since 2009 but he admitted that he was doubtful when told that he was selected to host this programme.
