Fujiwara Tatsuya announces his impending marriage during self-initiated press conference

Fujiwara Tatsuya announced that he is going to marry his longtime girlfriend of 9 years within this year during a last-minute press conference initiated by him and organised by his agency Horipro on 31 May 2013. Fujiwara's fiancee is a former office lady who is 4 years older than him and the couple got to know each other in summer 2004 through common friends during a meal together. They started dating soon after and have been living together for the past 7 years or so. As this year marks the 10th year of their courtship and that Fujiwara got support from his respected teacher Ninagawa Yukio and his agency boss when he raised the idea to them, he decided that this year will be the right time for him to get married.

The press conference of Fujiwara's marriage announcement was made known to the press just three and a half hours before the scheduled time and Fujiwara appeared in a black suit to meet the media. Usually, celebrities will use fax statements or their own websites to announce their marriages so it was unusual for Fujiwara to hold a press conference and allow the media to bombard him with questions. Fujiwara said that he had been a nobody when he first made his debut and his success to date is due to the support given by the media so this was why he decided to hold a press conference.

As to why he decided to make the announcement now, it was revealed that there is an upcoming event for his fanclub members where they will go on a tour with Fujiwara. Before the registration drive starts, Fujiwara thought that it was only right to let his fans know first in case the marriage announcement would cause any disturbance to them and affect their decisions as to whether to sign up for the trip.

When asked to describe how his future wife is, Fujiwara said that she is a humble and gentle person who has always been by his side all this while. However, he was stumped for an answer when asked if he could cite any celebrity who looks like his wife and said that she is petite like a meerkat before chuckling that he might be scolded by her for using that example. Although he hasn't officially proposed to her, he said that he plans to do something on the day before they register their marriage. As for kids, his fiancee isn't pregnant now but he hopes to leave it to nature to take its course. Fujiwara also revealed that he and his fiancee call each other by their first names but she tends to call him Tatsu rather than Tatsuya. When asked if they quarrel, he said that since both of them are the youngest child in their respective families, they tend to quarrel. He also recounted a recent episode where they went to a cafe and Fujiwara wanted to leave as soon as he finished his coffee since he's the impatient type but his fiancee wanted to stay on longer and enjoy her drink slowly. Fujiwara also said that sometimes his fiancee would criticise his acting which would make him quite irritated at her remarks.
