The production press conference of FujiTV's autumn 2013 drama "Umi no ue no Shinryojo" was held on 5 October which was attended by cast members Matsuda Shota, Takei Emi, Fujiwara Norika, Fukushi Sota, Terajima Susumu, Arakawa Yoshiyoshi and Ueno Yukio. The drama which begins its run from 14 October at 9pm on Mondays, is set on a medical ship that travels between islands in the Seto Inland Sea and provides medical treatment to the islanders. Matsuda who is in his first leading role in a Gekku drama, plays a doctor named Sezaki Kota who keeps falling in love with women he meet on these medical trips but always gets dumped in the end. Takei Emi plays a nurse who works on the same ship while Fukushi plays a nurse who admires Sezaki and holds a torch for Takei's character.
According to FujiTV, "Umi no ue no Shinroyojo" will also be the first drama in the TV station's history to be shown via the Internet to 35 countries in North, Central and South America.
