Matsumoto Jun, Aragaki Yui and Nakai Kiichi will be starring in a TBS Spring 09 drama, "Smile" which begins in April on Fridays at 10pm. Matsumoto plays Bito, the son of a Filipino man and a Japanese woman while Aragaki plays a girl, Hana who cannot speak due to a trauma caused by a certain happening. Nakai plays a lawyer Itou in the drama. The scriptwriter will be Takuma Takayuki who wrote the series "Hana Yori Dango".
In this drama, Bito (Matsumoto) has to deal with the death of his father and the disappearance of his mother while grappling with the inequalities due to his background. In order to look more like a Filipino-Japanese, Matsumoto will perm his hair straight. As for Aragaki, this is the first time that she is playing a character who cannot speak thus she will have to depend on her facial expressions and body language to show Hana's emotions. For Nakai, this is the first time in 12 years that he's appearing in a TBS drama ever since "Fuzoroi no Ringotachi 4".
