Premiere screening of movie "Tomogui"

The premiere screening of movie "Tomogui" was held on 26 August which was attended by the cast members Suda Masaki, Shinohara Yukiko, Mitsuishi Ken, the director Aoyama Shinji and the original novel's author Tanaka Shinya. The novel had won the 146th Akutagawa Award and the movie will be screened in cinemas from 7 September.

The film features Suda as the teenager Toma who lived in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture during the 63rd year of Showa (1988) and describes the desire and violent traits people possess in their nature. It also talks about Toma's relationship during that year's summer between him, his father  (Mitsuishi) who has a liking for violent sexual acts and the latter's mistress (Shinohara). The ending of the movie will be different from the novel.

Even before the movie is screened in Japan, it had already won the best movie and best director award in the 66th Locarno International Film Festival. When Suda recounted his experience of attending the film festival, he said that he was touched to be welcomed by the locals and those who had been at the screening and glad to know that the movie was well-received by critics and students. Mitsuishi revealed that there was one day when Tanaka came to visit the filming set and even took pictures with the cast which was surprising for them since they thought that Tanaka is such a serious person and rarely smiles.

Meanwhile, Tanaka revealed that he is happy to see his book being made into a movie and said that he was envious of the fact that many people came together just to finish one scene because he was always alone while writing his books. He also joked that he had been a AKB48 concert at Tokyo Dome recently and said that if that was considered the peak of joy, he hoped that there would be people who would enjoy this film as the peak of darkness on a moody Monday night.
