First-day-screening event of new movie "Cherry Boys"

The first-day-screening event of new movie "Cherry Boys" was held at Shibuya TOEI 2 on 17 February which was attended by the director Nishiumi Kenichiro and cast members Hayashi Kento, Yanagi Shuntaro, Maeno Tomoya and Ikeda Elaiza. The story which is based on the same-titled manga by Koizumi Tomohiro published in 2000, features Hayashi as the lead character Kunimori Shinichi, a 25-year-old virgin and a self-centred and pretentious man. Along with two other virgins of the same age i.e. Yoshimura Tatsuya (Yanagi) and Takasugi Makoto (Maeno) who also live in the same suburban city and have their own problems, the three of them who can't stop thinking about women despite their lack of progress in their work and love lives, hatch an outrageous plan to change their destinies. Ikeda plays the heroine Shaku Fueko who is regarded as the Madonna of the trio and their target in helping them to get out of their virgin status.

During the event, Maeno and Yanagi commented that they were all very impressed with how Hayashi prepared for his role as he looked so convincing as a virgin. Ikeda also echoed their view and said that her first impression of Hayashi was that he seemed so frightening with his long nails but rather realised that he was just too immersed in playing his character. During the filming, she was in awe of his ability to concentrate fully. However, Hayashi himself expressed his only worry about this because he was worried about whether the audience would misunderstand that he was like Kunimori in real life. As such, he always requested the make-up artist to make him look good during the interviews and public appearances for this movie.
