Yamada Takayuki & Nagasawa Masami to star in Japanese remake of American movie "50 First Dates"

Yamada Takayuki and Nagasawa Masami will be starring in the Japanese remake of American movie "50 First Dates" which is titled "50 Kaime no First Kiss" (50 First Kisses). The movie which is directed by Fukuda Yuichi, marks the first collaboration between the leads in 10 years since the movie "Sono toki wa kare ni yoroshiku". The original movie featured Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore as its leads.

In this movie set at Oahu Island in Hawaii, Yamada plays Yuge Daisuke, a tour guide studying astronomy in his free time and a playboy who only gets involved in relationships with no strings attached. Nagasawa plays Fujishima Rui who is suffering from amnesia as a side-effect after an accident where her memory gets reset every night. The two of them meet at Oahu in early summer and begin a romance after he falls in love with her at first sight. However, Daisuke has to woo Rui every day as she keeps forgetting him and every kiss they share is like a first kiss for them. Filming was done over a month on location in Hawaii.

Fukuda said that he only watched the original movie after getting the offer to direct this movie. He also hoped to show the true lifestyle of the locals rather than show the touristy side of Hawaii through the one-month stay there. Fukuda commented that the movie should entertain people of all ages and revealed that this was the first time he actually cried during the filming and editing.

Yamada commented that when he read the script, he was struck by how much he loved and cried for the first time. The story is touching as a love story and interesting as a comedy so he is confident that the wonderful story and great work by the cast and staff will all be evident for the audience to see. On the other hand, Nagasawa said that she was happy to be able to work with the director and Yamada again and that it was great to be able to work with the cast and staff to deliver a fine piece of work like this.

The movie will be shown in cinemas from 1 June 2018.
