Yamada Takayuki's directorial debut movie "Eiga Yamada Takayuki 3D" to be shown in June

Yamada Takayuki's directorial debut movie "Eiga Yamada Takayuki 3D" which was made with the aim of winning an award at the Cannes Film Festival, will be released in cinemas from 16 June. Details of the movie were not revealed but the movie features Yamada as the lead with Ashida Mana making a guest appearance.

The production process of the movie during summer last year was depicted in the TV Tokyo Winter 2017 documentary drama "Yamada Takayuki no Cannes Eigasai" where Yamada teamed up with director Yamashita Nobuhiro and they had a falling-out before working together again to complete the film. Initially, the movie to be produced was titled "Kegare no Mori" and featured Ashida as the lead but it was becoming increasingly impossible to complete this that Ashida and Yamashita wanted to quit the project. After a trip back to his hometown in Kagoshima, Yamada revised his plans and decided to make this movie focus on himself instead thus the title and content were changed. The movie will still be submitted for the Cannes Film Festival competition as planned despite the changes.  Yamada said that the movie is a compilation of what he had achieved so far in life and what he has in future so without the help of Yamashita, he would never have been able to complete this movie. On the other hand, Yamashita said that he thought that he would never work with Yamada again when they fell out but in the end, they managed to make things work again and dedicated this film to Ashida who helped them to complete this.
