The production press conference of FujiTV / Tokai TV Winter 2017 drama "Mahiru no Akuma" was held on 1 February which was attended by cast members Tanaka Rena, Nakamura Aoi and Ibu Masato. The drama which begins its run from 4 February in the Saturdays 11.40pm timeslot, is based on a 1980 medical mystery novel by Endo Shuusaku and consists of 8 episodes.
The story features Tanaka in the role of Okouchi Yoko who is a sociable and cheerful surgeon but actually has the urge to do evil when she sees a vulnerable target due to an emotional trauma she suffered as a child. One day, a young man named Masato is sent to the hospital where Yoko works at due to acute abdominal pain and falls for her in no time. However, this marks the beginning of his misery and destruction as various incidents happen at the hospital e.g. a medical mishap involving an elderly woman suffering from dementia, a young girl who is on the verge of death due to a mysterious allergy and a fake karte causing a patient's condition to worsen. Nakamura plays the role of Nanba Masato who is an aspiring novelist and the first to notice that something is not right about her. Nanba is initially attracted to Yoko when she becomes his attending physician after he is admitted on an emergency but decides to expose her evil deeds later.
Tanaka who got married to a doctor in February last year, happens to be playing a doctor for the first time and remarked that she feels strangely confident once she put on the doctor's robe. As for whether she got any advice from her husband on how she should act as a doctor, Tanaka said that there was nothing he could teach since he is in the position of saving people while hers is to make people suffer. However, he did encourage her by saying that this is a new type of role for her so it will be meaningful to give it a shot.
As for Nakamura who recently announced his marriage, he was congratulated by the media and thanked them for their well-wishes. When asked about how he has changed after marriage, Nakamura commented that everything is still pretty much the same but there is a newfound driving force pushing him to do even better in his acting.
As for Ibu who plays a priest listening to Okouchi's confessions at the church, he joked that he sometimes feels that his wife is out to kill him when she does things like turning on the ventilation airconditioner in the bathroom after he closes the ventilation windows. He also "complained" that all his scenes are at the church and he's always alone with Tanaka there in the confession room which makes him rather scared.
