FujiTV Winter 2017 drama "Kirawareru Yuuki" received a complaint from the Japanese Society of Adlerian Psychology published on the latter's website on 10 February with the name of its chairman Nakai Ayumi. According to the statement, the society protested against the drama for obstructing the development and popularisation of Adlerian psychology because it had a different interpretation of the topic and was spreading incorrect information. One of the problem areas cited was how the concept of "courage" in the title was misrepresented as the lead character insisting on saying what she thinks because she is a natural-born Adler and it appeared as if the story had ignored the efforts put into mutual understanding, working towards a goal together and sharing of views in this concept. In addition, one of the Adler psychology experts Noda Shunsaku pointed out that there was an absence of the element of considering the impact of one's actions on others in behavioural psychology so the story can be hardly said to reflect the true nature of this subject.
The statement was dated on 3 February which was one day after the fourth episode was broadcast and the society called for the termination of the drama or review of the script to convey the correct information.

Called for the termination of the drama ... *roll eyes* I had never heard of this "Alderian Psychology" to be honest. I do understand that they might be fighting for some recognition and that they want to have a correct message sent to viewers, but this is stupidly too much.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you remember this drama "Ashita, mama ga inai" back in 2014 where it was also caught up in a controversy over its story. Some organisations called for the drama to be axed while some companies withdrew their CMs then. As such, the issue this time seems relatively "small-scale" compared to what happened then.
