Carly Rae Jepsen to sing the theme song for new movie "Peach Girl"

Carly Rae Jepson's song "Call Me Maybe" will be the theme song for the new movie "Peace Girl" starring Yamamoto Mizuki and Hey! Say! JUMP's Inoo Kei. This is the first time that Jepsen's song is used as the theme song for a Japanese movie.

The film is based on the same-titled manga by Ueda Miwa that was serialised between 1997 and 2004 in the manga magazine "Bessatsu Friend" and has sold more than 13 million copies to date. Yamamoto plays Momo, a senior high school student with her hair dyed in red and a dark complexion which leads her to be misunderstood by the people around her while Inoo plays the charismatic prince of their school Kairi. When rumours run wild about Momo and Kairi having kissed each other, they get embroiled in a love triangle with Touji (Mackenyu) who she has been in love with since she was in junior high. Nagano Mei will play Sae who tries to snatch the things which other people like.

The song by Jepsen released in 2012, was ranked No.1 on the US Billboard singles chart for 9 consecutive weeks and got two nominations in the 55th Grammy awards. It took the production crew a few months to negotiate the deal to use the song as the movie's theme.

"Peach Girl" will be shown in cinemas from 20 May.
