Another silly award for Sosuke Ikematsu who started acting since 2003 for Tom Cruise's The Last Samurai. I understand that some Japanese are still trying to reconcile the meaning in English but to include Ikematsu and many others on this list as having a "break" for a particular year when they already are established actors is pure non-sense.
ReplyDeleteHi Jed, I think the meaning of this ranking is not about highlighting new and upcoming actors. The term "next break" according to the survey means that the people named in this ranking have already made some progress in their careers and are expected to do even better in 2017. Like what you said, Ikematsu is already quite established among the actors in his age group but there's really no reason why he can't be expected to have another breakthrough in his career as voted by those survey respondents.
