Filming of TBS Winter 2017 drama "Quartet" in Karuizawa done under freezing conditions

The filming of TBS Winter 2017 drama "Quartet" at Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture was concluded on 16 January which coincided with a strong cold wave bringing temperatures down to -16 degrees Celsius and heavy snowfall. Despite the tough conditions, the cast seemed to enjoy the filming as Matsu commented that her concentration is better when the weather is cold while Mitsushima whose hometown is in warm Okinawa exclaimed how she loves the cold and snow. The cast also including Takahashi Issei and Matsuda Ryuhei, were in Karuizawa between 14 and 16 January for the filming of episode 3 which is due to be broadcast on 31 January. In addition, most of the filming was done outdoors and had to be suspended due to the snowfall.

Although it had been a good 22 years since the 1995 NHK drama "Kura" where Matsu had to film in such snowy conditions, she revealed that she doesn't use heat packs in the daytime and keeps them for the late night shoots. With regard to the cold wave, she expressed that she was OK with it especially since this is exactly the same type of atmosphere as projected in the drama. As for Mitsushima, she said that she loves the cold so much and doesn't use heat packs at all. She even teased the staff members for being all wrapped up like wild animals.

The filming of the drama is expected to last till the end of February and will be done in Tokyo and Karuizawa.
