The press conference of NHK drama "Sniffer Kyuukaku Sousakan" was held on 31 August which was attended by the leads Abe Hiroshi and Kagawa Teruyuki. The drama will begin its run from 22 October in the Saturdays 10pm timeslot and is the first Japanese remake of a Ukrainian drama series. Abe plays the role of Hanaoka Shinichiro who is a consultant tasked with solving cases using his strong sense of smell while Kagawa plays his buddy Komukai Tatsuro.
Kagawa praised Abe for his great acting skills and said that since the latter looks a lot like the actor who played the lead in the Ukrainian original, this will make the Japanese remake more interesting to watch. He even joked that there is no other actor in Japan who can play the hero since Abe's height of "4.5m" is as tall as the Ukrainian actor. Abe and Kagawa had worked together in dramas such as the NHK production "Saka no ue no Kumo" so Abe said that it was stimulating for them to be working together again now especially since they are about the same age and hope that this will be a signature work for both of them. In response, Kagawa called Abe as a representative actor of Japan who can take on both serious and comical roles at the same time. Although their career paths have been quite different to date, they both have the same goals and the time they spent together during the filming was a very satisfying experience for them.
