Top 100 best actors and actresses as rated by "Shukan Gendai" in 2015

The following is a top 100 best actors and actresses ranking as released by "Shukan Gendai" in their 17th/24th January issue last year. How the results were derived were from assessments from four judges i.e. Usui Hiroyoshi, a professor at Sophia University who teaches media theory, Kusakabe Goro, a former movie producer at Toei, Nakamori Akio who is a critic and Yamada Mihoko who is a broadcast programme writer as well as points assigned for criteria such as the awards won to date and ratings of their works. Numbers in brackets refer to the number of points given to the actor/actress.

Much as I do not really agree with the positions of some actors in this ranking and the number of people who share the same positions are a tad too many (thus affecting the credibility of this ranking), I thought that the results might be of interest to the readers here so decided to share the ranking:

  1. In what universe is Fukuyama Masaharu a better actor than the likes of Endo Kenichi, Abe Hiroshi and Kohinata Fumio? *smh* And Tsumabuki Satoshi is ranked kinda low, I thought he'd be higher up. At least Tamaki Hiroshi squeezed into the top 50.

As for the ladies... ehhh, I'm pretty sure Fukatsu Eri is a much better actress than Ishihara Satomi, Yoshitaka Yuriko or Kanjiya Shihori.

    Ah well.

  2. That's why I said that this ranking is somewhat questionable. ^__^

Especially when ratings come into play, we know that the ratings of today can't be compared to the heydays where 20% was "good" and 30% was "superb". And ratings certainly don't reflect the quality of the cast's acting nor the story. What's more, with a panel of just four judges, the assessment is probably not as reflective than the results you may get from a survey. Then again, a survey may end up being like a popularity poll.

One obvious omission from the actors' side is Eita which I find extremely baffling. And the guys' side seems to contain more leading men-level type of actors rather than those in supporting roles.

As for the ladies, I thought Yoshinaga Sayuri is rather respected as an actress but she's not in the list too. If this survey was done this year, perhaps Haru might make it too since she's doing so well in the NHK morning drama now.

  3. Yeah, you're right. I didn't even realise Eita is missing from the list, how odd that he has been excluded since he's such a solid actor. I think it's sad that the supporting actors keep getting overlooked even in lists like this, you'd think a panel made up of media "experts" would take note of those beyond the leads, but eh. I guess we can't have everything.

These lists are so... pointless sometimes. Then again, I guess they do help generate some talk among us drama fans, haha.

  4. How can Nounen make it into the list when she is not playing in dorama or movie in 2015?
And no Tsuchiya Tao and Morikawa Aoi?
    What a joke. lol
