Wasn't Kimura Yoshino the lead actress for Boku no Yabai Tsuma? How did she get stuck in the supporting actress category??

In most countries' dramas, there is usually a male and female lead. However, the way it's done in Japan is slightly different where leads are indicated to be 主演 and it is not always that there will be a single male and female lead. In the case of "Boku no Yabai Tsuma", the lead is actually Ito Hideaki so everyone else including Kimura is considered to be supporting actors and actresses. Using another example like "Sekai ichi muzukashii koi", you might think that Haru is the female lead but Ohno Satoshi is actually the sole lead so Haru will have to fight in the supporting female lead category instead when it comes to drama awards. Quoting another example this season e.g. "Seiseisuru hodo, Aishiteru", Takei Emi is the sole lead while Takizawa Hideaki is considered to be a supporting actor although he pretty much appears to be the male lead to viewers.

Thanks Chiaki for explaining. I often notice the 主演 in the opening credits, but always thought there was a male and female lead for most dramas, unless it's clear that there is only one lead (say, Ayase Haruka in Seirei no Moribito). Guess I need to pay more attention! XD

Have you been watching anything lately?

I finished Boku no Yabai Tsuma, Good Partner, Fukigen na Kajitsu, Yakou Kanransha and Youkoso Wagaya e recently so I am writing reviews on them. It's taking me longer than expected though, just like how I kept rewriting my recent review for Naomi to Kanako. ^__^

Sounds like you got a good variety going. Looking forward to your reviews, Chiaki! I only watched bits of Naomi to Kanako (don't like Hirosue Ryoko), but agreed with you that Takahata Atsuko really stood out as Li.

I don't think Sekai Muzu deserves those awards.
It's questionable Juhan Shuttai can't even make a nominator for Best Drama
Kagawa Teruyuki should won beat supporting actor

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. Besides, this is more like a popularity poll where people who bother to vote for their favourites will have the power to decide the results as compared to an award decided by a panel of judges based on objective criteria. Judging one's acting or the quality of a drama is very subjective after all. ^__^
